Mill Creek Child Care Center

A LEGACY OF EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION

Mill Creek Child Care Center began as a shared dream between two best friends and recent child‑development graduates, Cherry Ramsey and Debbie Mowles. They longed to bring the first licensed child care center to Botetourt County. At the same time, the members of Mill Creek Baptist Church hoped to offer a child‑centered ministry that would serve families in their community.

In October 1982, those hopes came to life when the center opened its doors with just a handful of children—one full‑time preschooler, three part‑time preschoolers, and one school-ager. From the very beginning, Mill Creek Child Care chose to be licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia, meeting the rigorous standards required to provide the best learning experience for the children. These requirements reflect our commitment to providing a safe, nurturing environment for every child entrusted to our care.

The center has grown significantly since those early days. Today, we even welcome children whose parents once attended the program themselves. Over the decades, countless families have experienced the love, stability, and Christ‑centered care that define this ministry.

God has richly blessed Mill Creek Child Care Center, and we remain grateful for every child, every family, and every year of service. With joy and hope, we look forward to many more years of caring for the children of our community.

Our Mission Statement

Mill Creek Child Care Center strives to promote the intellectual,
social, emotional, and physical development of each child.
This is accomplished through a variety of experiences and
interactions with others. This takes place in a loving, supportive atmosphere that encourages individuality and independence.

God as Our Leader

Mill Creek Child Care Center is a Christian child care center
emphasizing love and empathy. We pray before meals daily and encourage good manners. Our curriculum includes Bible stories,
with church staff visiting weekly to share Bible stories and songs.

Our Preschool program equips children with essential skills for a successful school transition. Starting at age two, they explore colors, numbers, the alphabet, and more. A key objective is to prepare them
for Kindergarten, emphasizing their developmental, social, and emotional growth.
The preschool program offers age-appropriate activities that align with the STREAMin 3 curriculum model, which encompasses areas such as art, math, music, science, and social skills. Furthermore, the program ensures a structured routine for meals, naptime, toileting, and both indoor and outdoor play, as well as a mix of active and quiet activities. Children participate in small and large group interactions, fostering both self-expression and independent thinking. Additionally, we organize field trips for all children, with the exception of those who are 2 years old.
